The boat became known as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crikey.com.au\/2005\/06\/16\/the-origins-of-the-name-siev-x\/\">SIEV X (Suspected Illegal Entry Vessel, Unknown)<\/a>. At least 146 children, 142 women and 65 men from Iraq and Afghanistan drowned; their names are tracked on a <a href=\"http:\/\/sievx.com\/dbs\/SIEVX\/form.php?function=search&amp;sql=&amp;page=0&amp;table_name=SIEVX-Passengers\">non-official website<\/a>. The voices of the survivors are rarely heard:  Ahmed Al-Zalimi <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sbs.com.au\/news\/article\/2013\/07\/18\/take-politics-out-asylum-debate-siev-x-survivor\">here<\/a>,  Faris Shohani <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/national\/zahras-lullaby-20111018-1lylh.html\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A writer, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arnoldzable.com\/about-the-author\">Arnold Zable<\/a>, calls for 19 October as an annual national day of mourning in today&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canberratimes.com.au\/comment\/its-time-to-honour-fellow-boat-people-20131018-2vsky.html\"><em>Canberra Times<\/em> (Forum p.2)<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>We have a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sievxmemorial.com\/the-memorial.html\">non-official SIEV-X memorial<\/a> in Canberra; it was devised by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sievxmemorial.com\/schools-community-groups.html\">300+ groups, schools and churches<\/a> who felt and feel grief at that tragedy and the continuing tragedies.
