Light Warlpiri has hit the news big time.  Carmel O&#8217;Shannessy just <a href=\"http:\/\/muse.jhu.edu\/journals\/language\/v089\/89.2.o-shannessy.html\">published a paper<\/a> in<em> Language <\/em>on it. And it&#8217;s been taken up as news: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/international\/archive\/2013\/06\/how-the-worlds-newest-mixed-language-was-invented\/276981\/\">The Atlantic<\/a>, and you can see it and other renditions in <a href=\"https:\/\/news.google.com\/news\/rtc?ncl=ddOUsqJ0CzyQK6M9PSvt8V8O9ulZM&#038;siidp=26f8157392320e38e8e6b602482c239d4f8a\">Google News<\/a>.  And the Atlantic makes use of the material on Carmel O&#8217;Shannessy&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www-personal.umich.edu\/~carmelos\/\">research page<\/a>.  OK &#8211; they don&#8217;t focus on the fascinating auxiliary, and maybe it isn&#8217;t the world&#8217;s newest language, (though it must be a contender)..  but isn&#8217;t it a wonderful thing that more people are realising how interesting this work is! <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wow!
