In<br \/>\nfieldwork-based disciplines, like linguistics, musicology,<br \/>\nanthropology and so on, recordings are typically of high cultural<br \/>\nvalue and there is great benefit in the proper curation of these<br \/>\nrecordings, to the researcher, to the community in which they worked,<br \/>\nand to the broader society.<\/p>\n<p>What are the costs and benefits of these technologies?<\/p>\n<p>Papers are welcomed on any relevant topic, including (but not limited to):<\/p>\n<p>How can we:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> ensure the longevity of the data we record<\/li>\n<li> access our own data over time<\/li>\n<li> provide public access to publicly funded research data (including<br \/>\ndealing with ethical and IP issues)<\/li>\n<li> provide data to the people we record, especially to those who have<br \/>\n\t little access to computers or the internet<\/li>\n<li> ensure that our research processes and analysis take maximum<br \/>\n advantage of the access to data provided by digital methods<\/li>\n<li> embed our analysis in accessible data to allow verification of our claims<\/li>\n<li> enable research based on digital data from archival sources<\/li>\n<li> develop tools and processes that accumulate data in<br \/>\n\t standards-conformant formats<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Abstracts are due by 9th May 2011 with responses by 10th June, 2011.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Full papers for those who want them published in the peer-reviewed<br \/>\nvolume will be required by August 5th for peer-review. The edited<br \/>\nvolume will be available as a book at the conference and will be<br \/>\nhosted in an open-access online repository at Sydney University.
