The first was held in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ddl.ish-lyon.cnrs.fr\/AALLED\/Univ_ete\/Summer_school.html\">Lyon<\/a> in 2008, and the second was in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hrelp.org\/events\/3L\/index.html\">London<\/a> in 2009.<br \/>\nThis year the <i>Leiden University Centre for Linguistics<\/i> (LUCL) will host the third <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hrelp.org\/events\/3L\/leiden2010\/index.html\">3L International Summer School<\/a> on Language Documentation and Description<\/i> from 5th to 17th July 2010. Registration for the Summer School is now open, and information on the program, courses, instructors, and more, is available on the website.<br \/>\nThe 3L Summer School offers a variety of courses on aspects of language documentation and description for both current and novice field linguists. Courses cover both practical and typological issues and include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Practical training in fieldwork methods and grammar writing\n<li>Recording techniques and software for documentation, description and archiving\n<li>In-depth courses on specific areas such as negation, tone, and kinship terminology\n<li>The documentation of endangered sign Languages\n<li>Courses investigating various aspects of languages found in Central and South America, Indonesia, Africa, and the Caucasus\n<\/ul>\n<p>A <i>Student Conference<\/i> will be held during the Summer School on 10th July 2010, giving students an opportunity to present their ideas or research and receive feedback from their instructors and peers.<br \/>\nThe 3L Summer School draws upon the extensive expertise of the three paricipating universities in the 3L Consortium: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ddl.ish-lyon.cnrs.fr\/aalled\/index.html\">DDL Laboratory, University of Lyon-2<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hum.leiden.edu\/lucl\/\">Leiden University Centre for Linguistics<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hrelp.org\">Endangered Languages Academic Programme<\/a>, School of Oriental and African Studies, London.<br \/>\nThe 3L Summer School in 2010 will be followed by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hum.leiden.edu\/summerschool\/\">Leiden Summer School<\/a> in Languages and Linguistics, which will take place from 19th to 31st July.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 3L Consortium (comprising Lyon, Leiden and London (SOAS) Universities) has been running an annual series of international summer schools on language documentation and description.
